Philipp, Are you also interested in taking part on the functional discussions? Hi team, I have been working a bit on the project planning and would like you to take a look at it: https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/mpango/wiki/ProjectPlanning I would like to hear you in case you are willing to contribute in the concept stage of the game as we need to close this down in order to make progress on the following stages. I know the project planning has been a bit chaotic, when I started the project in SourceForge I was first not expecting such a response from people wanting to join in so I didn't do the work that must have been done prior to implementation phases. That has impacted in all of us. Having said this I also believe that since people at the moment don't seem to have so much time to dedicate to the project, things aren't so bad. At the moment I do think there is a clear candidate for two of the documents proposed: Character Design Document and World Design Document must probably be best delivered by Philipp Kleinschmit. Regarding the rest of the documents, specially the more functional ones, I would like to invite all team members to participate in the discussions. In this sense, I ask you to please answer to this email expressing if you are interested in participating in such discussions. Depending on the answers, a set of meetings will follow addressing functional requirements of the game. Have a nice weekend, Eduardo de Vera |

After having moved, renamed, deleted and lots of other file system based operations, Subversion has become a problem. I must apologize for being responsible for a broken build at the moment. I have been struggling with Subversion during the past two hours and this doesn't seem to get any better. I will try creating a new branch where I can store my code. Nevertheless I am starting to think seriously to a git migration. Regards, Eduardo |

Hi team, Major refactoring hit the road. I needed to clean up, spread the classes according to the architectural layout. Please update your sources, and proceed with a clean install. I have ran the jetty:run-exploded from the top most project and it continues to work (smoke test successful). Nevertheless if you see that after updating the code, doing a clean install and running it, you encounter problems, don't hesitate to contact me. Cheers, Eduardo de Vera |

Hi team, I am doing a refactoring in order to follow the architectural principles that were exposed on the last team meeting. I would like to ask you not to commit any code on core or common project until new notice. I hope I am done before the end of the day but it could take a bit longer. Thanks for your patience. Thank you for providing feedback. I will makes changes to ChangePasswordBackingBean and create unit tests based on rewritten ForgotPasswordBackingBean. How can I delete a file in a repository in eclipse? Do I delete a file in a project and commit it? Hi, I've been working on this a bit. As Jay says usernames and passwords need to go on a configuration file, if possible hashed (md5). At the moment I have removed the password from committed code. Now it resides on my personal settings.xml file. Each of you should have his own settings.xml on his computer as described here: http://maven.apache.org/settings.html Mine looks like this: <settings xmlns="http://maven.apache.org/SETTINGS/1.0.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/SETTINGS/1.0.0 http://maven.apache.org/xsd/settings-1.0.0.xsd"> <profiles> <profile> <id>mPango</id> <activation> <activeByDefault>true</activeByDefault> </activation> <properties> <email.smtp.username>my_username</email.smtp.username> <email.smtp.password>my_password</email.smtp.password> </properties> </profile> </profiles> </settings> This way the password and the username stay out of the source code safe from the Wild Internet. I have proceeded changing the password for this user in order to avoid undesired usage. In case you are interested of receiving the project's password, please get in touch with me and I will send it to you individually. Possible improvement: I read about password encryption on Maven version 2.1.+ (+info http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-encryption.html#Introduction ). This can be interesting for shared passwords. Hi team, I have been working on the mpango-core and mpango-web projects and I feel we should have a bit more order on the projects. First of all, it is unacceptable to have a broken build on the Subversion repository. This is a situation that impacts the whole team and that is easily avoidable. It is as simple as running a mvn clean install before committing any code to the repository. Please pay close attention before committing things that don't even compile! Secondly, all tests that require a running Spring context should be considered Integration Tests and as such should be named according to the following rules: <testName>IT.java. If someone wants to see the difference between an integration test and a unit test, please have a look at AuthenticationServiceTest.java class where we have an integration test called authenticationTest and an unit test called testGenerateResetKey. The main difference is how the related classes to the class under test are created, unit tests create mocks or stubs integration tests rely on the real classes. Third, there were no tests at all for the backing beans in the mpango-web project. Anyone creating backing bean has to create the Unit Test associated with it. This means that for all existing backing beans we need unit tests. Fourth, I see main methods on some of the beans. I don't get the point for having a main method on a Spring Bean and they should be removed. Fifth, there is a bean called ApplicationContextService that returns the ApplicationContext from Spring. This service should be removed and those beans that require the application context should implement the ApplicationContextAware interface and let Spring inject it at runtime. This ApplicationContextService should be removed from the source code as well. Sixth, I see core objects such as UserDAO being used by mpango-web Backing beans. This is not a good practice. If someone needs to implement certain behavior that requires database access (such as the generateResetKey) we should do that in the AuthenticationService class that is located on mpango-core project. Seventh, since we are using Spring we should leverage the solutions it brings in order to ease up development. In this sense I have completely rewritten the ForgotPasswordBackingBean, created a ForgotPasswordMessageCreator and a ForgotPasswordMessageListener. Those involved in JMS topics please take a look at these classes in order to see how Spring enables JMS functionality with a minimum amount of code lines. Eighth, this application will be used by people from different parts of the world and different languages. Thus we need to use the Internationalization means in order to communicate with the user on his own language. Spring allows that by using the ApplicationContext.getMessage() method. So I would suggest that those people that have been working on the above code please change it as mentioned on this email. If you have questions or concerns please don't hesitate contacting me. Hope this is a educational email, no mean to brag on anyone. Best regards, Eduardo de Vera |

Attendees: wellings, devdlee, bastian, phillipp, mbadiac, edvera Topics Current situation: Lots of progress being done on different levels. But we do face some issues in terms of the project process. Isolated individuals: we are working too isolated. From now on IRC Channel will be hang out place to be (I will try to be as much as possible). Google+ to be considered for future interactions. Weekly status meetings purpose? Reinvent the meeting. Less formal, more open to discussion. New meeting date&time: Tuesdays. Invitation will follow. If rejection please provide proposal for better time. Different activity level: Completely inactive members to be removed. We need more proactivity from people. If you are blocked try solving it yourself, if you can't, speak up! Blocking issues: Functionality and architectural decisions blocking the team. High level architecture design done. Components awaiting responsible individuals. Architecture The high level design architecture is available on Trac (http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/mpango/wiki/ProjectArchitecture). Based on the proposed architecture, POCs to be done. Check Trac for open tickets. Functionality Lack of functionality is an issue. Work must be done on this level. Lower priority at the moment compared to POCs to prove the architecture. To be delivered on the go. Request for volunteers to participate on a functional committee responsible for describing next pieces of functionality. This committee will work on an open basis but ultimate decisions with be taking by edvera. Transition to Trac We need more features (wiki, ticket, roadmap...) and Trac delivers them in a comprehensive way. Open for management to all team members. Anyone can create, edit, assign... tickets on Trac. If you don't have work: check Trac. If the work you are doing is not on Trac: create a ticket yourself! If there is work to be done: add it to Trac and assign it to edvera so that he can manage the work. Work devdlee and wellings: finish the User Module which is now called mPango Admin. mbadiac: new responsibility assigned. Taking care of the development environments. First task: enable James execution for mPango Admin email sending capabilities. edvera: Next Use Cases to implement for POCs. Mock the GameBoard service in the mPango Server Game Web component. bastian: Work on the Board rendering with the Mocked GameBoard service. Work on User Join and User Leaves events. phillipp: Work on the design of the mPango Client Game Web component. Migrate "Game Script Design" to the MediaWiki. P.S. The bold part of the status meeting was not discussed. If anyone is interested in participating in the committee or wants to discuss its details, you are very welcome to do so in the next status meeting. See you on the next status meeting! mPango |

Hi, I was thinking more of having a james server (as discussed previously) for such system tests. It is a java based mail server capable to sending emails without a problem. I thought of doing this initially, but this will require us to have the password somewhere in the code. for development this will be fine, but when we go live I think we should investigate other options that do not require the password to be part of the code-base. Hi team, As agreed last week, we have moved the status meeting to 18h30m on Sundays. Unfortunately I must have not send an update of the meeting as devdlee has pointed out the fact that he didn't receive any updates. Please note this new time on your agendas. Best regards, Eduardo |
