I had the same problem, but on v1 of the mp3elf. After trying several things, I found that it was actually a terminal problem. I was using some Exceed terminal and I switched to some other terminal and the flash worked. Not sure if that's the problem, but it may be worth a try. -Chris Kline -----Original Message----- From: mp3...@li... [mailto:mp3...@li...]On Behalf Of Her...@va... Hello. The parts lists and installation guides on the mp3elf
web site specify "IR Module", but do not specify which kind.
What IR module does the MP3 elf use?
Thank you very much,

I just updated my v1 and v2 mp3elfs to the latest firmware version. The same problem cropped up in both versions when I updated: the 4x20 display lost its mind. I can see about every other character or so, but it's obvious something isn't right. The display is messed up at boot-up as well as in play mode. Any ideas what I could check? Did the pinout for a 4x20 display change? Other than the display problem, both version are playing music just fine. Regards, Chris Kline |

Hi Greg, You are right, you need to use JReceiver and elfServer to send streaming audio to the mp3elf. Within JReceiver you can set up a playlist that takes a streaming URL and makes it available to the mp3elf (via elfServer). Paul W |

Hi folks -- I have a question about streaming audio that I wasn't able to find in the docs. (Feel free to point me to them if I missed something.) The mp3elf web site mentions that you can stream audio from internet sites to the unit; this is perfect for my needs. However, I don't see any examples of this in the documentation -- everything I can find looks like you need a local machine running the elfServer or jreceiver software. I'd like to use one of these mp3elfs as a standalone unit connected to my stereo, but it looks like that may not be possible. How does one access streaming audio from sites on the internet using an mp3elf? Thanks very much, Greg |

Hi Tim, As Chris mentioned, we have a new version of the software coming out soon. One of the improvements in this new version is that it automatically creates a configuration entry in the config file when it hears from a new elf. This is the way that it was always intended to work, it has just taken a while for that feature to get crossed off the to do list. It is just a side effect of the state machine I have used in the firmware. Note that a heavily revised release is coming out this week (server and TINI) which changes the architecture considerably and will remove the side effect of the state machine. The new release pushes more procesing to the server and offers more extensibility so that those looking to customise and extend can do so on the server without having to hack the firmware Chris. ****************************************************************************** - NOTICE - This message is confidential, and may contain proprietary or legally privileged information. Hi Yann.
Thanks for the suggestions. With the help from you, Chris and Alastair my=
elf works great!

I'm very fortunate living here in California, our (100 year old) house ha=

a full basement, and several years ago I pulled CAT5 into every room, rew=

all of the telphones and the home LAN via a punch blocks in the basement,=

the elf was the easiest part :) Actually, once the elf is cased it'll pro=

Good suggestion - I was lazy and just reflashed *everything* and set the
TINI for DHCP.

how well did it work?

I took the uncased elf down to the nearest RadioShack store and asked abo=

Thanks again for the suggestions.

For anyone who's interested, here's what I figured out about the power su=

The spec is listed on the features page, and the discussion list has some=
instructions on how to wire for 5V DC. On my elf the connection pairs for=
R7 and R8 are wired, which means the power supply should be 7 to 12V AC/D=

so I got a 7.5V 500mA ps and it works fine.

Alastair, Thanks for the quick reply. First things first, it all works! Last night I shutdown my PC Server, then this morning I took the LCD and the TINI off of the elf, put them back, restarted my PC, telnet'd to the elf and started it and ... viola - MP3s over my home LAN!! Very cool. Now I have a networking issue which I'll send on to Chris. > <MP3elf Name =3D "wilko" ID =3D "00.30.1B.XX.XX.XX"> > you need to put the MAC address of your TINI in there. > Also make sure you have a file "default.m3u" with full filename path to= >your MP3 files. The MAC address of the TINI makes sense, but when things don't work as ex= pected, well, strange configs have been know to work ;) A question about the MAC address: Why use it? I haven't poked into the El= f Server code yet, but using MAC addresses configured on the server seems very restrictive and somewhat user unfriendly. Perhaps a friendlier plug-= n-play scheme could be something like:: Elf boots, broadcasts message to find El= f Server, sends MAC address to Elf Server. >Also, hopefully you followed the instructions about putting the LCD >connector the other way around (silkscreen is wrong) - it's mentioned in= >Chris' assembly instructions PDF. Hello,
Firstly a question and then a suggestion:
Question: Which version of the firmware are you using?
Suggestion: When debugging, do not start the firmware from the startup
file. Instead, use a default startup file, then telnet into the TINI,
then execute:
stopserver -s
java mp3v2.tini &
This should start the program.
Could you please include the debug that you receive after trying this so
that I can get to the bottom of the problem
Thank you,
Chris.

Hi Tim,
LCD not showing anything is one issue, the elfServer config looks like
another.
I'll deal with elfServer config first:
<MP3elf Name = "wilko" ID = "00.30.1B.XX.XX.XX">
you need to put the MAC address of your TINI in there.
Also make sure you have a file "default.m3u" with full filename path to
your MP3 files.
LCD issue: The LCD shows stuff while the MP3elf is booting, so you should
see something regardless of the server config problem.
Check that changing the contrast knob actually changes the contrast. If not,
probably that is a problem.
Also, hopefully you followed the instructions about putting the LCD
connector the other way around (silkscreen is wrong) - it's mentioned in
Chris' assembly instructions PDF. That's happened to one or two people.
Normally shouldn't kill anything.
Regards,
Alastair

Is anybody developing or modifying code from what is in CVS at the moment? The design is about to be refactored once more so that alternative display controllers (such as touch screen, graphical LCD, etc) can be easily "plugged" in and alternative input devices can be plugged in (such as touch screens and jog wheels). If anybody is looking to develop alternative display drivers, please get in touch also since I would like to run through the revised design to see if it meets your needs. Please let me know by posting to the list. Thank you Chris. ****************************************************************************** - NOTICE - This message is confidential, and may contain proprietary or legally privileged information. Hi, Has anyone got this setup to work on a pure Win2000 environment? I'm having problems with the Jreceiver/Jetty setup. The MySQL seems to be running fine, and the tables are set up ok. The JReceiver installation instructions are mostly based on a Linux environment. I have also tried the Java2 1.4.0 SDK, but still no go... Regards, Frode Aanonsen -----Original Message----- From: Chris Snell [mailto:Chr...@di...] Sent: 10. mai 2002 00:55 To: mp3...@li...; reedesau Subject: [Mp3elf-users] WARNING: JVM version for the elfServer I just wanted to let all of the MP3elf users know that: 1) You should all be using JReceiver (http://jreceiver.sourceforge.net) - it is a fantastic music management server - web based playlist management, internet radio stations, indexing of MP3s, etc. And the elfServer has a driver that communicates with JReceiver. 2) If you are using the elfServer with JReceiver, do NOT use JVM version 1.3.1_02. It has a hideous bug which means that the next track will not be automatically skipped to after the current track is finished. I have been trying to solve this bug for some time and am very excited that I have found it. The elfServer / JReceiver combination has been tested with JVM version 1.3.0_02 and 1.3.1_03 and works fine on these versions Chris. **************************************************************************** ** - NOTICE - This message is confidential, and may contain proprietary or legally privileged information. I just wanted to let all of the MP3elf users know that: 1) You should all be using JReceiver (http://jreceiver.sourceforge.net) - it is a fantastic music management server - web based playlist management, internet radio stations, indexing of MP3s, etc. ****************************************************************************** - NOTICE - This message is confidential, and may contain proprietary or legally privileged information.
