Thanks everyone for all of your answers. The camera I am using is a Philips PCVC680K if memory serves me right (don't have the cam handy). The driver I am using is PWC 10.0.9 I am unaware on how to control which video device a cam gets. If someone can enlighten me on this, please. Making a symlink to /dev/video0 or 1 as suggested is not really possible (although I could go for e.g. /dev/video10). Normally the cam gets the lowest available minor, but it could be this is already taken by another device (in my case a usb tv card) Thinking of it: what I actually would like is to have motion automatically detect the presence of a new cam and start using it. It would be fine with me if I have to identify the cam first. Rationale is that I want to be able to add or remove a cam to a running setup, preferably with no further user interaction. I can do the hotplug stuff (using udev) and can scribble some code to do that. However I did not find an easy means to add a cam to motion without editing the config file and restarting the prog. The other issue for this was that the minor number for /dev/video might differ when a device is added or removed. Best regards, Frans. __________________________________________ Yahoo!
