OK I have installed a missing libjpeg8-dev (maybe not the right version?) sudo apt-get install libjpeg8-dev and now get /usr/local/motion-3/trunk/picture.c:511: undefined reference to `jpeg_set_defaults' /usr/local/motion-3/trunk/picture.c:513: undefined reference to `jpeg_set_quality' /usr/local/motion-3/trunk/picture.c:517: undefined reference to `jpeg_start_compress' /usr/local/motion-3/trunk/picture.c:524: undefined reference to `jpeg_write_scanlines' /usr/local/motion-3/trunk/picture.c:528: undefined reference to `jpeg_finish_compress' /usr/local/motion-3/trunk/picture.c:530: undefined reference to `jpeg_destroy_compress' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [motion] Error 1 compilation error This is a minefield........ ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: peter thomas <pet...@ya...> To: Motion list <mot...@li...> Sent: Monday, 2 April 2012, 10:07 Subject: Fw: videodev.h missing (why not update 3.2.12 on home page download) Thanks Steven for your reply which has helped me enormously. I tried the latest SVN today ./ configure make now I have compilation error :- netcam.h:19:21: fatal error: jpeglib.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated. make: *** [.depend] Error 1 Any ideas? I am relatively new to linux using Ubuntu 11.10 and when this occurs and when I find a solution in the forum as below. I do not understand what is a svn or git? I just wanted it not to be broken for a first time use by a newbie. Can someone give me the time to point me in the right way to get motion working (before I like presumably many others have to walk away from a great piece of software). for the error: linux/videodev.h: No such file or directory Fix record Update to svn or git version , where it has been fixed.
