Personally, i don't have an XBox, however a number of
people have approached me for information about this.
If anyone is interested in doing the dirty work, read
on. More info on http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/
(email-quote from Edgar, developer of the Xbox debian
iso's)

There are several thing's different fom a normal Debian
install .
1.) The kernel itselfe. For running on the xbox need
special kernelsupport.
The Kernel must compiled with gcc-3.2. On the
newer XBoxe's, the kernel
can't boot if it is compiled with gcc-2.95 or gcc-3.0.
2.) The video. You need the kernelside which is an
enhanced riva fb driver
and the XFree86 driver. The Xfree86 driver is a
modified nd driver which
needs Xfree86 4.2.1.
3.) I use devfs for my live cd and the cloop module
from the Knoppix dist.
4.) The installation methods :
The partitioning is a little bit tricky. You have
more choises :
1.) Using the full disc. For this the user must run
our own BIOS.
Native XBox apps would not runn anymore.
2.) Installing Linux in a loopback file an an
existing FATX
partition on the box.
3.) Intalling Linux in a native partition after the
FATX partitions.
5.) The bootprocedure does not real different from a
normal PC.
We have wrote an loader which is similar ro
loadlin from DOS.
6.) DVD speed for live cd's. The DVD drive in the XBox
works best
with CD/RW. Only some drives can read normal cd'r.
As you, CD/RW
are very slow when reading from it. I tryed to
running KDE 3.1 from
cd. It wsa horrible slow. At the moment i use
WindowMaker as the wm.
7.) Networksupport for the user for the insttaller. The
default input
device on the XBox is the xpad controller or a USB
keyboard.
The installation with the xpad only can be pain, so
i also start ssh
and preconfigure the network that the user can
install Linux over ssh.

The wiki now has a SubProjects section, with a page on the
Xbox porting project. Should make working on this somewhat
easier
