#175 Mode line may crash MooEdit

To reproduce the case, put this mode‑line as the first line of a file:

# -*- coding: utf-8; mode: foo;  indent-tabs-mode: 1; c-basic-offset: 3; tab-width: 0; -*-

Then go to the line just below, and hit the tab key. MooEdit will crash without even a message in the console.
