Hello Yevgen,

I have configured the tab key like this: (medit 1.0.3)

[ ] Smart Home and End
[x] Enable auto indentation
[x] Do not use tabs for indentation
[ ] Backspace key unindents
[x] Tab key indents
Tab width: 8
Indent width: 4

With this settings the tab key nearly behaves like I want it to behave:
- No tabs are generated. Instead spaces are used with a "tab stop" width of 4.
- The spaces are inserted right at cursor position.
- If there are real tabs in the document they are displayed with a width of 8 characters.
- Tab key does not indent a line as the menu item "Increase Indent" does!! (despite of the setting)

What does not work:
If a selection exists, it is replaced by the spaces. Instead if you select one ore more characters in a line and press tab, the line is indented again. I would like the tab key to generate one or more (up to 4) spaces that should replace the selection.

If I deselect the checkbox for "Tab key indents", the tab key starts to insert real tabs instead of only spaces. IMHO this is a wrong behaviour because I still have enabled the option "Do not use tabs for indentation".

Greetings,
Gert
