My first idea was a KPart, but a flake also seems to make perfect sense. But a stand-alone widget and a separate library for the drawing seems more reachable at the moment. I certainly will give it a decent try. It's time for some modularization...

I could imagine this becoming a KDE 4 flake for KOffice. I'd be so great to easily embed molecule structures in your documents.
Yep, that's something we should have (also integration with LibreOffice, for instance). Will look into it.
