The main problem is that there are too many atlas formats. MOBAC can write them but only a few can be read. But for displaying the coverage of an atlas reading an atlas is important...

Before generating your atlas, you could also an output for the a picture of the coverage.
Not sure of all possibilities but generating an OziMap output will generate a PNG. Just choose a high level zoom
