MacOS X Network Management Extensions / News: Recent posts

Welcome to MacNME

Welcome to the MacNME project. This site was set up to allow community collaboration on the Network Management Extensions.

The reason this project was created was because we found that MacOS X did not provide all of the remote administration capabilities that a large enterprise might require. It is not feasible to use Apple Remote Desktop, SSH, or the other tools currently present in MacOS X to perform day-to-day management of more than a few clients. In environments with hundreds or thousands of MacOS X Clients, additional capabilities needed to be developed that would allow a Network Operations Center technician to perform common tasks such as managing local accounts and groups, installing packages, or perform remote shutdown/restart of client systems from a central administrators console. It is the intention of the MacNME project to develop a set of software components to extend the existing OpenDirectory implementation to facilitate these abilities.
