shut down takes ages, if there is a certain activity level within the broker. I am not even sure whether it would complete in those cases, since i never waited more than two hours...

it looks like it now shutdowns cleanly sometimes, and sometimes not at all except for closing the wx Window. Did not yet find a pattern though.
