Hi I am new to the list and this is my first day of working with mlterm. Please excuse me if I am missing anything obvious. I have installed the latest version 3.0.11 and tried to view Devanagari - just by visiting google.co.in in elinks, though no luck yet. I believe my compilation with indic option is fine since the option does appear in the configuration gui. I have Lohit fonts already installed and after reading README.indic I also installed DVYG0ntt.ttf. I have tried launching by both forms of command shown in README.indic and also tried tweaking encoding to utf8 and font to one of the devanagari fonts in gui as well as through command line options and also as suggested in README.indic. For most of these times, the devanagari characters appeared just as *. Only time something different happened was when I launched with environment variable LANG=en_US.UTF-8, though in place of * just some garbled characters appeared. Would appreciate help in trying to get it work. Mayuresh. |

Hi, From: Boruch Baum <bor...@ya...> Subject: [Mlterm-dev-en] bug-report: xcore not being used by default, or even when specified Date: Wed, 16 Nov 2011 13:35:02 -0800 (PST) Message-ID: <132...@we...> > Earlier today, I installed your app from the Debian repository, and got it to properly display Hebrew character in bidi. I wanted to bring to your attention that the man page indicates that the default font rendering engine is xcore; However, when I invoked mlterm from a bash shell, mlterm would start in xft. I would have to use mlconfig to deselect xft. I think Debian package applies a patch to change the default value of "type_engine" option from "xcore" to "xft", so I wonder if the patch causes this problem. It is maybe possible to avoid this problem by removing (or renaming) /usr/lib/mlterm/libtype_xft.so file. If /usr/lib/mlterm/libtype_xft.so is not found, mlterm uses xcore fonts forcibly. mlterm version 3.0.8; Debian Wheezy: bash v4.1.5 Hello y'all, Earlier today, I installed your app from the Debian repository, and got it to properly display Hebrew character in bidi. I wanted to bring to your attention that the man page indicates that the default font rendering engine is xcore; However, when I invoked mlterm from a bash shell, mlterm would start in xft. I would have to use mlconfig to deselect xft. EXAMPLE TEST PROCEDURE ====================== (from an xterm, running bash shell with a locale en_US.UTF8) $ mlterm & $ export LC_ALL="he_IL.UTF-8"; hcal; export LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8" (displays RTL, but with boxes instead of Hebrew characters) (ctrl+right-click, select font window, xft is selected) (deselect xft, apply changes and exit, Hebrew displays OK) (alt+F4 to kill window, so now back in xterm/bash) $ mlterm --type=xcore & $ export LC_ALL="he_IL.UTF-8"; hcal; export LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8" (same as above, still xft) $ mlterm --type=cairo & $ export LC_ALL="he_IL.UTF-8"; hcal; export LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8" (mlconfig indicates cairo engine IS being used. That doesn't) (help with Hebrew, but that's not the bug I'm reporting) (alt+F4 to kill window, so now back in xterm/bash) EXAMPLE TEST PROCEDURE ====================== This test procedure just asks you to note that mlconfig indicates that no font is selected by default, and that when one is manually selected, Hebrew <WILL> display properly <EVEN> when using the xft engine $ mlterm & $ export LC_ALL="he_IL.UTF-8"; hcal; export LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8" (displays RTL, but with boxes instead of Hebrew characters) (ctrl+right-click, select font window, xft is selected) (instead of deselecting xft, note that the font selected is) (blank, from family default. Change it to a font with Hebrew) (support, apply changes and Hebrew displays properly) |

Actually it is necessary to install 'flex' command before building mlterm-3.0.5post-20110629, but it seems that 'flex' command doesn't exist in your system. Now I uploaded http://mlterm.sf.net/mlterm-3.0.6pre-20110719.tar.gz which doesn't need 'flex', so please retry it. --- Araki Ken ara...@us... |
