Favorite Team

Matthew Levine

mlbviewer has many features but probably one of the most useful features is the favorite team.

If you specify a favorite team using the favorite= in your config file ([Configuration File Options]), the following functionality is activated:

  • Your favorite team will be highlighted in the listings. If use_color=1, your favorite team will be highlighted in the color listed in favorite_color= option. Otherwise, with use_color=0, favorite team highlighting will use underlining instead of colors.
  • Favorite team highlighting extends to several screens including listings, master scoreboard, standings, and statistics (either via box score in mlbviewer or the standalone mlbstats.py app.)
  • In master scoreboard view, D (uppercase D) hotkey will highlight scores of division rivals for your favorite team. To make this the default behavior, add highlight_division=1 to your config.
  • Listings will always focus the cursor on the favorite team. No more having to scroll down to watch your team. The cursor will jump there automatically.
  • Favorite team will be added to video_follow and audio_follow automatically. You will always get your team's broadcast. If this behavior is not desired, set disable_favorite_follow=True in your config. (Some people love their team and hate their broadcasters.)
  • RSS will start with your favorite team. The first time you press the 'w' key (default RSS keybinding), the RSS feed of your favorite team will be displayed. If you want to select another team, press 'w' again and enter the team code.
  • Calendar view will start with your favorite team. If you want to see the calendar for another team, press the calendar key again (default keybinding is 'C'.)
