No

I've started this effort, and I'm willing to contribute a
package, but I'm still very new to fink and mixmaster so
may take a while.

Send me an email how or if I can contribute to this effort.

Would this still be desireable even if there was a proper
MacOSX installer for the mixmaster client (a .sit or
    whatever it is on Mac)?

    David,

There's a Python Mixmaster client library which may or may
not be of use to you:

    http://invisiblog.com/files/pymaster-0.0.4.tar.gz

It wraps the Mixmaster C source with Swig. It works on BSD
and win32, and could be relatively easy to port to OS/X. Try
the Linux/BSD build/install/test instructions as a starting point.

Since most people would be using terminal already, I think it
    would be desirable.

    Fink:
    james$ fink install mixmaster
    (ENTER PASSWORD) - Done
(plus updating would be pretty automatic)

    Finder:
    Find the download site address
Use safari/explorer to navigate to the web site, download the
    packages
    Open Download folder
    Double click installer
    Enter Password
    Click Continue
    Click Continue
    Click QUIT

If only fink didn't invent their own source format. If they used
the standard debian packaging tools for building packages (just
like they already do for apt-get and friends) then you'ld have
you package already. I need to look into how to build fink
packages, but that may take some time.
