As highlighted again with the problem between Frog2
and DIZUM+SEGFAULT
news:KD3QJ54T37202.5886111111@frog.gilgamesh.org
it is essential for the reliability of the remailer
network
to ensure that remailers hold each others' valid keys

Of course, it is a remop's duty to keep his keyrings
up to date.
in case he does not want to read apas and remops
list regularly
-Farout and Frog and Turing provide info with last
updates/changes to do performed
(Farout is my favorite, BTW)
-unless he trusts one of the public rings enough
to blindly overwrite his keyring with the public one
Farout/Frog/Turing (Efga too) are *very* up-to date
But it would be even better if it was *also* working
the other way round
i.e. if the remop who changes his keys could check
that
the key change has been propagated to all known
fellow remops
(the tools at http://frogadmin.yi.org/MetaStats/
only allow to check for *public_keyrings*)

In the case with DIZUM/SEGFAULT, I had to perform a
battery of tests,
which took time, indicated a probability -no certainty-
and were accurate only because DIZUM/SEGFAULT are fast
and reliable
Worst of all, such tests work only
*after_mail_has_been_lost* (by thousands)

=======================================================

Maybe developers working at Mixmaster should implement
a feature similar to the sections
SUPPORTED CPUNK (TYPE I) REMAILERS
SUPPORTED MIXMASTER (TYPE II) REMAILERS
as provided in Reliable's remailer-conf
e.g. http://frogadmin.yi.org/Thesaurus/remailer-
conf_frog2.txt

That would provide a possibility for instant *remote*
check that NO remailer is using an obsolete key any
more

(I would just have had to scan my Y:\MetaStats\*.* ,
searching for strings
0xF2175639
0cc33a419fe394624100d9c23ca48cca
I could have warned DIZUM and SEGFALT that they were
still holding the wrong keys,
before I removed them for good)

=======================================================

Apparently, this adjunction to MIXMASTER's remailer-
conf
should not be too difficult to implement
should bring a significant improvement to the
network's reliability

Listing of Type II remailers has been added to CVS.
I don't know how to list Type I remailers. Is this needed?
