As a follow-up... 1. I was able to download the IBM ViaVoice TTS files (both RTK and SDK are needed) and get IBM's replacement of ViaVoice Outloud installed and working. 2. I was able to download vvo_speak from http://dittos.yi.org/automation/ and, by installing the RPM, get it to work with the new ViaVoice TTS. 3. I was able to download the IBM ViaVoice Command & Control and ASR SDK, install these RPMs and get ViaVoice VR working. 4. I did not have to download the 78MB Dictation component!! :) 5. I was UNABLE to get either Festival or vvo_speak to work in conjunction with ViaVoice VR due to the stock Linux drivers not sharing the /dev/dsp correctly (as Brian said). :( 6. I downloaded and install the ALSA drivers, Libs, and Utilites, configured my system for this driver. 7. After configuring mh/festival according to Brian's suggestions (search the mh archives on Festival) and now Festival and ViaVoice VR work together. 8. I am unable to get vvo_speak to work correctly while the ViaVoice server is running. I get MIXER_WRITE errors and an abend of vvo_speak. As this is "mixer" related, it may be a compatablity problem with the new ALSA drivers. On Fri, 28 Jul 2000, you wrote: > I ended up installing the whole 78MB distribution.
