I first picked up a Creative Modem Blaster 56k external modem at Best Buy ($80), since it had a little sticker on the front that said it something about 'derived from Rockwell', but it turned out that it did NOT use the Rockwell command set, but something called ISO-101. This might have been ok, but I looked everywhere for documentation on ISO-101 and couldn't find anything. So I gave up and swapped that modem for a $80 Diamond SupraExpress 56k internal modem (SUP2720). Brian's code works great with this one, except the voice files are at a different rate/compresion, so his recordings don't play back well. It plays back recordings it makes fine. The DTFM (phone tone) stuff works great. Should make for another good command interface. Also, I hope we can configure these voice modems so the output goes into the mike/line in of the soundcard so we can use it for VR. I'm not sure how to take the phone off hook, avoiding a dial tone or an off hook message for a single line system. On a PBX phone system, I think can have the modem on an extention, always off hook.
