Ryan, This is a very unusual volunteer group; since Bruce Winter relinquished his leadership role, I think we have managed pretty well, but certainly miss one person who "owns" the project. How should we decide who makes decisions? In a volunteer group, it is the person who does it, but I'm not a doer here. It is very important to be inclusive, so supporting svn if github is the new way, would avoid alienating anyone (I think). And, if you have the time, you should check with the names you see in the repository, and do it. I also feel that the first step should be to do a new release. Then, if you want to include github, or make github primary and sync to subversion, fine. But, don't let that slow down getting out a new release. Then, the Insteon branch gets merged back in? Then, a new web gui? And, please don't drop Audrey support out :-)( Always time to appologize later (misquoting Grace Hopper). While a flashy new GUI would be great for marketing purposes, I fear that would add unnecessary roadblocks to rolling out a new release. How about: version 2.00 "stable" as of today version 2.50 "stable" plus Insteon fixes rolled in version 3.0 new web interface I am in favor of getting a new release out pronto, especially if it would be one that will just work without a lot of hassle. The actual version number is far less important than getting out a new stable release. Is Bruce still on the mailing list? I seem to recall that the problem with official releases has been that we can't find the official to release the new release. Hence we've been stuck with development releases. Can anyone more official comment? We may wan to think about catching up with the rest of the world in regards to the way we track this project. Set up a hosted Trac (http://trac.edgewall.org/) or Redmine (http://www.redmine.org/) to maintain our directions, roadmaps and bugs. Or like I suggested earlier last month, Set up a free github account, And mirror weekly changes to from SVN to git, As its a free hosted bug tracker, wiki, and codebase discussion system (https://github.com/features) I'd be happy to take charge in managing the github side of things, There is a nice importer to import SVN into git, and I'd be happy to set up a script on one of my redundant servers to do this weekly sync between the two. It probably wouldnt hurt to have both SVN (For the more experienced Developers), and Git for the people who prefer it over SVN. Ryan |
