I was about to send out a status update on OpenZWave, and on closer inspection of the message below, it appears Mal accidentally sent the message only to me, and not to the list. (I don't see it in the Gmane archives). So I guess this will be new information to most of you, then. Well, I see this reference: Steven J. In a nutshell OpenZWave is a project started by Mal Lansell, using the Z-Wave code in LinuxMCE as reference material, along with other public documents, to create an open Z-Wave stack in C++. It's being developed on Windows with a C# binding, but actively ported to Linux by other developers. The project has been getting some support from the lead developer of the LinuxMCE Z-Wave code, and hardware vendor Aeon Labs has been providing information and test hardware to support the project. I recently checked in on the project and from reading the developer list it seems to be coming along nicely, with some developers getting practical value from it. I'd say it is still a ways off from being production ready, with some key pieces missing, but it likely represents the best path to better Z-Wave support in MH. The likely architecture using an xPL gateway as the interface between MH and the OpenZWave driver. As with any open source project, developers welcome. See the message below for more info, and links to the developer discussion group. -Tom -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [mh] z-wave Date: Wed, 20 Jan 2010 00:22:05 -0000 From: mal_lansell To: Tom Metro --- In mis...@ya..., Tom Metro wrote: > So we have a couple of votes for xPL. What started as a Windows port of the Z-Wave bits of LinuxMCE to provide freeware xPL Z-Wave support is morphing into OpenZWave - a cross-platform, open-source library to enable anyone to add Z-Wave support to their applications without requiring any in-depth knowledge of Z-Wave or purchase of an expensive SDK. I have Windows code working, and the native Linux stuff isn't too far behind. I want to launch with some sample apps etc to get people started, so we're looking at up to a couple of months before it's all ready to go. There will be xPL apps that use OpenZWave, but in time hopefully others will use the library to create apps for many other systems, including MH. Until the first release is available, you can still join the OpenZWave Google group and discuss Z-Wave in general, or what you want to see from OpenZWave. http://groups.google.com/group/openzwave Thanks Mal Lansell OpenZWave Admin and xPL Dev. |
