Rob, I've run Misterhouse for a long time - I have separate file structures for development and operation. Once I'm happy with my development I promote it to operation and just let it run - for months and months and months without any intervention. It is running on Linux, on a shared server that provides Samba central storage, but no other user activities. The linux system is running on software RAID with the ability to boot off of three drives (two active, and a warm replacement) and is sitting behind a UPS with about 8 hours of hold over. The security on the server is set up for least privileges with Mrhouse running as a user with access to only certain files, the main code libraries are read only. The only time I've been down unexpectedly with the system was after a ground surge from a lightning strike that totally blew up the system (yes even behind the UPS - the actual earth got to be briefly about 600V more positive.) Even with Hard Drive failures (2) over five years - it just keeps running. However - another interpretation of "production" is support - it seems now that Home Automation is becoming part of the property value on higher end homes - the ability to access support once a house is sold will mean the difference if the system adds value to the home price, or is considered "worthless". I'm sorry to say from that perspective a home automation system based on MrHouse will in most markets be unsupportable and have no value (whereas it has a lot of hobby value to some). For that reason I'm moving more of my main control (HVAC, Irrigation, Lighting, Security, Remote Access) over to a HAI Omnipro that was used to replace the security system also blown up in the lightning strike. Where I live it is possible to get professional support for the Omnipro so all the hobby work I do adds property value. However there are several functions that I enjoy from MrHouse that are not available from the Omnipro, and I'll likely keep it going adding unique but non critical functions, accessed through the touch screens on the OmniTouch panels. Hi, I'm back after few years of not being a MH user (I've installed and used LMCE in my house). But since LMCE is not fully compliant with Open source licence, I'm considering to be back to MH again to use it for fairly simple setups to watch HVAC, Security systems... How stable do you find MH? Can it be run without certain unneeded components (like web server and similar) ? Is proxy stripped down MH ? What version is recomendable for stability (current svn) ? Any tips to strip down and harden MH installation to make it as stable as possible somewhere ?
