Re: Re: [mh] Insteon direct addressing Thanks Greg, Some additional questions then: Does that mean that I DO have to pair a SwitchLinc or button device? Or like the InLine-Linc, can I connect and start to receive messages from SwitchLincs as well? I ask this because I will have at least 250-300 Insteon devices and would love to just record all their addresses in a big table rather than go around pushing buttons :) If you do have to "pair" such devices, wouldn't you also have to do the InLinc for them to feedback the "status" to the PLM? Thanks, David Re: [mh] Insteon direct addressing Hi David, David Deutsch wrote: > What I wanted to know is if MH using the PLM, I would be able address > various Insteon devices directly based on their unique addresses rather > than having to pair them individually with the PLM? Yes. For that matter, I can't think of a reason that you would want to "pair" (i.e., reverse-link) them anyway since they are InLine-Linc devices. The only reason to "pair" an insteon device to the PLM is if the insteon device has a paddle or button on it. > (e.g. read the > Insteon address off the back of the device and type it into a MH script?) Yes--you have to eventually know the address to do anything useful w/ a insteon device in mh anyway. > Can I poll my house for responsive Insteon devices to control with MH? No. Make sure that you write down the address in advance. I would suggest testing before covering them up to avoid any possibility of a typo. > My concern is that I pair these devices with my PLM, then either I have > to replace the PLM or want to move to a new interface controller later > on and can't access the devices embedded in my walls. Linking--if you want scene based control--can be fully managed w/i mh. There is built-in support to remove "orphaned" links created when a device or controller is removed.
