I can definatly comment on question 1. Yes this would be very very useful. Its something I have been waiting for! I client I will be using is Audrey but I could see using my PocketPC with a wifi card to accomplish similar tasks. Button functionality....hard to say but I will give it some thought. -----Original Message----- From: mis...@li... [mailto:mis...@li...]On Behalf Of Paul Estes Sent: Tuesday, February 10, 2004 11:19 PM To: misterhouse-users Subject: [misterhouse-users] IR Universal Remote I've been using a custom Audrey based Universal IR Remote running under MH for a couple months. One of the things I've been trying to do is make it as generic as possible with an external config file so that it can be portable. The goal is to release it here if there is any interest. Basically, I was tired of the 17,283 IR remote controls that had taken over the table in my living room. Using an Ocelot, I've captured all of my IR signals and can regenerate them from MH through various functions. Using discrete IR codes I have functions that will turn on specific components and set specific inputs on those components for that configuration. The idea is that anyone who comes over should be able to operate the entertainment center without knowing anything about it. Press DVD to watch a DVD and all of the right equipment comes on and gets set to the correct inputs and now the display changes to show the DVD player controls. It can be controlled from any browser, but right now it's customized to the Audrey's screen size. That's one of the pieces I need to fix. Basically, it uses GD to generate a full screen image with buttons on it. The buttons are sized by the user config. The 'top' level buttons stay static (I put them at the top of the screen but they can be defined to go anywhere), and I've accomodated up to 2 sublevels. IE, Video at the top, then a DVD sublevel under that. There are different types of buttons. Some buttons go to other screens, some buttons display dynamic output, and some buttons will run an eval from a hash lookup, so you can run MH subroutines to do whatever the heck you want. Push a PowerBox on the left half and it turns something off; the right half turns it on. Again, I mostly use it for IR, but I also have HVAC and lighting controls plugged in there. Buttons are only box shaped right now, I need to add support for circles. I haven't done much work on it lately, but I'd like to introduce it to the community. I'm hoping that others will have some input to help make it better. There's a couple pieces I still need to work on in order to make it generic enough that others might find it easy enough to start using. I guess I'm trying to prioritize that work, thus this long message. So, to get to the questions: 1. Would anyone else find this useful? 2. What would you use for a client besides Audrey? 3. What types of other button functionalities would you find useful? --Paul ------------------------------------------------------- The SF.Net email is sponsored by EclipseCon 2004 Premiere Conference on Open Tools Development and Integration See the breadth of Eclipse activity.
