What I did was go to Radio Shack and buy some 900mhz wireless intercom systems. Radio Shack #43-3102 They are 69.99 for two of them and they are multi channel. Then what I did was just add appliance modules to them and did not put batteries in them. That way they turn on and off as needed. The only problem I ran in to was that there is a small delay on the VOX function so you have to play a short wav file to start it off and set it so that play waits until it is completed before going to sending out the voice. These come with a auxilary input so that you can get a adapter from the mini stereo plug in your sound card to the RCA plug in the intercom and it works like a charm. I have also purchased a attenuator for the speaker wires inside the unit so that I can plug it in to the mic input on my sound card. Now just like FMS radio's a crafty neighbor could detect this and speak to misterhouse on your behalf but it is a chance I am willing to take here. I will just make sure that I don't add voice commands to anything that would be a problem. You would also have to add in a relay or some other device so that when misterhouse is talking the microphone is off so that misterhouse does not talk to himself. With the weeder SSR board for me this will be easy. I will keep everyone informed on how this project goes. Then you can add two at a time for 69.99 and a couple of 2 pin appliance modules and walla cheap sound throughout the house. The only minus to date is the clicking of the appliance modules.
