Jeff,=20 My preference is ViaVoice for the following reasons (YMMV): - It rarely mis-pronounces words and is easy to understand.=20 - Generates speech inline/realtime as opposed to waiting until the whole phrase is generated. This makes a big difference when generating large passages. - Supports special procesing tags to modify voice characteristics on the fly. - Seems to require less CPU resources. I think all of the festival voices sound more like a computer generated voice and most of the voices have a slight british accent which I personally have a hard time understanding. I am sure some prefer it but I don't.=20 Supposedly there is a lite version of Festival called flite that has voices that are more realistic (unfortunately those new voices are still unavailable).=20 Hope that helps,=20 Dave =20 On Thu, 2001-12-20 at 21:46, Jeff H wrote: > I've been running MH on a Windows machine for about 3 years now.
