Hi Julian, This is not really enough for me to go on. Could you please launch the "Terminal" app, which can be found in Applications>Utilities, and type the command /Applications/Minsky.app/Contents/MacOS/minsky . and copy/paste any error messages you might get from that.
BTW - Minsky2.8 launches correctly on my High Sierra machine (10.13.6), which is not a developer machine, but some random Mac I keep around for testing purposes.

Can't find a usable init.tcl in the following directories:
/Applications/Minsky.app/Contents/MacOS/library/tcl
This probably means that Tcl wasn't installed properly.

Hmmm … Terminal suggests not only no init.tcl, but no library either:
-bash: /Applications/Minsky.app/Contents/MacOS/: is a directory
Julians-MBP:~ julianwells$ /Applications/Minsky.app/Contents/MacOS/library/
-bash: /Applications/Minsky.app/Contents/MacOS/library/: No such file or directory
Several attempts at deleting and reinstalling produce this result.

As it happens, I have do a previous version of Minsky—which has the same symptom of icon bouncing briefly and then failing to open (not clear which version it is, but the Finder says it was created 21 August 2014).
When I get a spare moment I’ll try to investigate with Terminal.

Weird. I just tried again doing the test of deleting the /Applications/Minsky.app directory, and reinstalling, which is a test I'd done earlier. This time, however, I see exactly your problem - there is no library directory. Not sure what happened here - perhaps I didn't delete the directory when I thought I had. Instead - it has been moved to Minsky.app/Contents/lib to get around strict requirements Apple make for code signing.
I will fix this up and get a new build out pronto. Possibly you are the first new Minsky user starting with 2.8- users upgrading previous Minsky releases will not notice any problem :).
I should have added that the old version of Minsky was installed on my previous MacBook and ported across when I upgraded. Also, it came with a folder of example models—if these are included in the current distribution then they too have failed to install.

Unfortunately, I'm in the midst of upgrading my developer Mac - this has caught me with my pants down, so to speak. This ticket has been marked top priority, and I will get to it. Just can't say when, as it takes a while to set up a Mac :P
In the meantime I can think of two possible workarounds:
1) copy the contents of /Applications/Minsky.app/Contents/lib to /Applications/Minsky.app/Contents/MacOS
2) Install Minsky 2.7, which was before the code signing changes were done, so should work, then upgrade to ver 2.8.
Option 1) is probably the best.

#918Could you try going to that directory (/Applications/Minsky.app/Contents/MacOS/library/tcl) and seeing whether init.tcl is there?
Possibly, you problem might be resolved by deleteing the entire /Applications/Minsky.app directory, and then installing again.
