A little backburner project of mine has now reached orbit. I have
managed to massage Minsky in a point where the openSUSE build service
will create installable linux binary packages for a range of different Linux
distros.
If you're keen to try this out, web to
http://software.opensuse.org/download.html?project=home%3Ahpcoder1&package=minsky,
select you distribution and version, and follow the
instructions. These are basically given as a sequence of shell
commands you copy and paste into a root shell.
I have not tried this out on all available distros. I did try openSUSE
(of course), Ubuntu and CentOS. It worked on openSUSE and Ubuntu, but
there appears to be a problem with the TK installation on CentOS. Your
mileage may vary, or course.
If your OS version is supported, there is also the option for
downloading rpms, or deb files that you can install on your system
without going via the automatic installer.
At very least, the source code for both Minsky and EcoLab have been
updated to allow it to build easily on Debian style systems - which
appear to inhabit the outer spiral arm of the Limux galaxy.
Please give this a whirl, and let me know if there are specific system
that the install doesn't work with. I can follow these up using a
virtual machine.
Cheers
