You do realise that the variable browser window is already pannable. Certainly for Ty's model, the variables only just spill outside the window, so you can easily pan around the window. I'd say the current implementation is probably good up to at least an order of magnitude bigger model.

I didn't, but when I checked it, it was very sluggish (see video).
This isn't a major priority at the moment, but as people start going to
town on creating variables in Ravel, it will become important.
The whole of that model is quite sluggish. I didn't find the Variable
Browser to be too bad, considering...

I'd like to see this feature reimplemented as an HTML window, using HTML table, and mathjax for variable rendering, probably rather similar to the summary tab, with an expandable tree structure.
The current cairo canvas implementation is a relic of the Tk world, where we didn't have a decent table widget. (TkTable was shockingly bad).
