[Mingw-users] FTP problems

Hi,

I've just installed MinGW (plus MSYS and the DTK), but I can't use FTP
for anything. It tries to call Windows's FTP, and the FTP screen just
flashes by. When I invoke ftp with cmd /c ftp, I get this:

$ cmd /c ftp
ftp: ftp/tcp: unknown service

I really need FTP to get some Perl modules; libnet needs it, too. 
What can I do?

If you are trying to use ftp in MSYS, just remove the 'ftp' file (not the
'ftp.exe' file) located in the /bin directory.  The 'ftp.exe' is an MSYS
native app.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm stuck again:

cpan> install Bundle::CPAN
LWP not available
CPAN: Net::FTP loaded ok
Fetching with Net::FTP:
  ftp://ftp.perl.org/pub/CPAN/authors/01mailrc.txt.gz
Issuing "/bin/ftp -n"
User (ftp.cpan.ddns.develooper.com:(none)): 

AFAIK it isn't supposed to be prompting me for a login/password.

Does anyone have any idea on how I might be able to fix this? FWI, I
installed current versions of MSYS, MSYSdtk and MinGW successively,
then created an fstab as told, but ftp didn't work, so I can't get
some perl modules I need to compile an application. Any help is
appreciated.

Ftp works, your use isn't as you expected.

As for CPAN, which perl are you using?  The native ActiveState or the one
from msysDTK?  Perhaps the issue is with perl instead of ftp?

Try:  ftp -n ftp.perl.org

You will see that it does not prompt for the User/Password.  One *DOES*
need to be supplied with the USER/PASS ftp commands.  So if you type
anonymous when asked for the user name does it work?
