[Mingw-users] Question about msys mmap

Lately i been running into having to rebase new applications a lot
(especially those with dynamic modules so/dll) then when porting
apache to Msys i noticed an option to turn of mmap much to my surprise
apache loads without a hickup and works just fine while if i let mmap
on i get loads of *** unable to remap
C:\Msys\lib\apache\mod_usertrack.so to same address as parent -- 0x21F0000
554746160 [main] httpd 5112 sync_with_child: child 1396(0x3D0) died
before initialization with status code 0x1

Is Msys mmap broken or is it something else ?.

I don't understand you're drive to create such a package.  A bit
pointless, goes well beyond the bounds of the intention of the use of
MSYS.

You should debug it to determine that.

Hello Earnie.

Not going to package this one dont worry :) just testing if there
where any pitfalls still left in the old runtime by trying out
notoriously hard to build stuff. And it does seem to apply to msys
openssl also which fails with the same errors if something uses its
plugins in /usr/lib/engines. I was actually a bit surprised that this
bug still existed
even the newest cygwin runtime sometimes fails to remap dll's but far
less atleast.

hmm i wonder if i can persuade gdb to build on msys or can i use the
mingw version ?.

I've used the mingw version but you might have better luck with an
MSYS version when it comes to debugging MSYS.

Thanks for you tenacity in this work.  I appreciate it.  Make sure you
have a debugging version of MSYS as well as an operational version.
What is great about MSYS is that you can have different development
environments without interfering with a working version.  See the
work[1] I'm doing based on this fact.

I have somewhat working version of gdb 6.8.2. Let me know if you want 
sources as well.

I've been watching the Cygwin development list and know that this
issue is worse in Windows 7 and 8.  They keep trying to hammer on
where to map the loaded dll.  I forget the details but I know they've
chosen some address space that is less likely to have an issue.  See
the Cygwin development list archives for it sometime the last half of
this year.
