I would be nice if mgwport's mgwmake command [1] would by default pass "-j N" to make, where N is something like the number of available CPU cores + 1. The trick here probably is go the number of CPU core, as under MSYS there's nothing like /proc/cpuinfo AFAIK.

I realize mgwport's README says "parallel make is problematic under MSYS" [1]. Unfortunately it does not say why this is the case. But while it is, implementing this feature request probably is not a good idea.

I'm rejecting this, for the following reasons:–

    • The original contributor, Charles Wilson, is no longer an active MinGW.org participant.
    • mgwport never worked for me anyway, on my LinuxMint host.
    • I prefer to promote mingw-pkg, (currently available here), as the modern replacement.
    • You, yourself, have acknowledeged that there may be obstacles to adoption of this particular feature.
