Beta 2.4, hey0 133.

When a chest is full, or nearly full, storage minecarts can delete items accidentally. In the configuration pictured below, I fill one of the chests up until only one slot remains free. Then, I load a storage cart with two stacks of sand and send it on its merry way. It passes the first chest, fills the remaining slot, and then deletes the rest of the sand. If other non-collectable items are in the cart, they remain behind.

No sand ever makes it to the second chest.

Does it matter that one of your signs says collect ITEMS (plural), and one says collect ITEM (singular)?

also.. which chest is first? left or right? (or does it matter)

I have been seeing the same problem. I'm using it to dispose of cobble and dirt at the moment but it does worry me that I might start loosing iron etc when the chests fill up!

    Same problem here: 2.4b, hey0 133

Full chests delete the items they are supposed to collect. (items they would not collect are left in the cart). Most likely, the program is removing the items from the cart and THEN checking to see if there is room in the chest.

This was actually my submission; I just forgot to log in.

The graphic I provided was an after-the-fact recreation of the design, and not specifically a functional test. In my proper design, I have a long row of 50+ chests with all the proper names, and it still doesn't work.

I think you're right, sfmughi, it's taking them out of the cart, then checking, and then realizing they're full and not putting it back.
