I initially reported this issue to TexWorks, but found that their released binary does not encounter this issue.

Using the bundled TexWorks 0.6.2 with the basic-miktex-2.9.6361-x64.exe installer certain images do not show in the preview display of the compiled PDF.

An example image and tex file is included in the texworks issue.
