Sometime between 2.9.5800 and 2.9.6350 the output of tex --version changed to no longer include the undelying TeX version. This is causing problems for Matplotlib, see https://github.com/matplotlib/matplotlib/issues/8748

Was this intentional? Could the TeX version be put back in to the --version output?
