Midi Player V1.12 can import SF2 Soundfiles, but new instruments cannot handle vibrato depth messages, even when just setting vibrato depth to 0. Midi files then sound incorrectly at start.
Alternative : Using a software synthesizer and loading the GM soundfile at Windows start up. But there is a 240 MB limit for 32 bit systems, SF2 import in the GUI does not update the instruments anymore, and I found my system having speed issues already with the FluidR3 - e.g. long before reaching the limit:
Here is how to install Keishi Suenaga's extended version of Timidity++ :
Download the extended Timidity setup file from http://en.sourceforge.jp/projects/twsynth/
Install it
If you don't want to keep the soundfont Timidity++ comes with :
download a General Midi soundfont Examples: Merlin GM (72MB): http://www.composition-contest.com/index2.php?autoguest=1&goto=soundfonts.php FluidR3 GM (140MB): http://www.synthfont.com/soundfonts.html Download and install the sfarc-utility from http://www.melodymachine.com/ or from my project page Unpack the soundfont with sfarc and move the SF2 file into C:\\timidity\\musix
Start Menu
.Programs
..TiMidity++
...setwindrv
there keep the preset soundfont or replace it by whatever soundfont you use
then save settings & close.
Start Menu
.Windows control panel
..Sound and Audio
...Choose the Audio tab
....there Change the Midi standard to Timidity
The new Soundfont file is now available for all applications that use Midi sound.
Timidity++ is not recognised as synthesizer in Java, so that Midi Tool V1.12 will still show the instrument names as in General Midi specification.
