Hey I had the same problem and it took me like an hour to figure out a fix, but I made an account just to post what worked for me to try to help. (on Windows 10)
I think what fixed it was I opened up the MicMute app. Then in the sidebar system tray (bottom right task bar) i right clicked on the app and hit devices. I changed the device to my actual microphone and was then able to toggle it off and on from there.
I think the issue might be the app defaults to the Windows settings, and then leaves your mic permanently on mute unless you go in and manually select it back. Anyway I saw a lot of people were having this problem to so I wanted to share what worked for me and hopefully it helps.
If that doesn't work, I was also playing around in the Windows sound settings before I got it to work. So maybe it is a combination of the two? But i think that first part was what probably did it.
Or else, I also went to Start->settings->sound and was changing my input device and hitting troubleshoot. After running the test on troubleshoot it kept saying my mic was muted and asking if i wanted to turn it on. I would hit yes and then close it out but it wouldn't do anything.
I also had this problem. I finally fixed it. If you have this problem then go to your computer settings. Make sure micmute is open when you are doing this. Go to system and then to sound. At the very bottom there should be advanced sound options options call app volume and device preferences. In there you will see everything that is open which is using audio output and input. Change the micmute output to your preferred speaker and make it 100%. Also make sure the little icon next to the bar doesn't look like it is muted.
Hi there! I had exactly the same problem with my setup. The app would work initially, but after a restart or moving files, the sound signals would disappear even if the 'Play sounds' option was checked.
The issue is usually related to Windows security permissions (UAC) when the app is located in 'Program Files', or a broken file path in the app's configuration. Here is the 2-step solution that fixed it for me:
Move the app folder to a User Directory: Close MicMute completely. Go to C:\Program Files (x86), copy the entire MicMute folder, and paste it into your Documents folder (or any non-system folder like C:\MicMute). Windows blocks apps from reading their own files in 'Program Files' sometimes.
Manually Re-select the Audio Files: Run the app from the new location (right-click MicMute.exe and 'Run as Administrator'). Right-click the microphone icon in the system tray, go to the sound settings, and manually browse and select the mute.wav and unmute.wav files again from the new folder in Documents.
By doing this, you update the internal path of the app and bypass Windows folder restrictions. After this, the sound should persist every time you restart your PC!
Hope this helps!
