Hi there! I had exactly the same problem with my setup. The app would work initially, but after a restart or moving files, the sound signals would disappear even if the 'Play sounds' option was checked. The issue is usually related to Windows security permissions (UAC) when the app is located in 'Program Files', or a broken file path in the app's configuration. Here is the 2-step solution that fixed it for me: Move the app folder to a User Directory: Close MicMute completely. Go to C:\Program Files...
Same. When tapping the (selected) mic key quickly, the function toggle/flips. If this is a feature, it's a bad one. Please set this so the mic key is depressed for on, released for off. And then a check box to reverse the function, if so desired. In the meantime, I'll have to find another program. This mode-flipping occurs at terribly random times.
We have some users looking to install this on their workstations where they cannot install apps as administrator. Is it possible to install this without requiring elevated rights?
I also had this problem. I finally fixed it. If you have this problem then go to your computer settings. Make sure micmute is open when you are doing this. Go to system and then to sound. At the very bottom there should be advanced sound options options call app volume and device preferences. In there you will see everything that is open which is using audio output and input. Change the micmute output to your preferred speaker and make it 100%. Also make sure the little icon next to the bar doesn't...
I hear you. I'm surprised to see that there seem to be fewer 'PTT' programs around now than a few years ago, and MicMute hasn't been updated since 2015. One sure-fire way to strap a single button to mute AND monitor vol zero would be to use an AHK (AutoHotKey) script. AutoHotKey can basically make anything do anything. The kicker is that it will take some research and setup to find/edit a script that performs both functions, but if you start by googling 'AHK script PTT mic mute' etc, or post your...

-oh yes, I believe I tried this one, it works well and has good features. Only issue really is, I want to use PTT, and have it how MicMute does it (not only MUTEING the mic when I let go of PTT, but also bringing the MIC VOLUME to zero)- this way my 'monitoring' feature of my HT OMEGA ECLARO sound card will not always have monitoring on but only when I use my PTT Key, makes sense right? -So yeah if either of these 2 programs could implement either the fix for micmute with the double-tap bug issue(maybe...
Ha, I remember raising this ticket :) Never found a solution / I don't currently use a mic, however this software might be worth checking out: It's called MicSwitch. Not sure I'm allowed to post links, so Google 'github micswitch iXab3r', first result.
Hello, I know this is an old post; 2016 I just found out about MicMute, I like it it's the only one I found that does what I need it to do, which is : Push to Talk, while actually mute and lowering the volume to zero for my mic volume (at the same time)- Reason being needing to make "Monitoring" setting go to zero when not using PTT. This is essential. The Main issue I have is the exact thing you're posting about. if I Double tap my PTT-Key fast it kicks the Transmitting mode to always on, if I get...
MicMute Keeping Microphone Muted after Restart, Requires Starting and Unmuting
Pardon, I didn't actually put in a Subject Line. Please cancel this ticket, I will create a new one.

Loved this program on Windows 10 and would love to see support for linux if possible.
MicMute stopped working on upgrading to an Asus Xonar SE soundcard.
Hey I had the same problem and it took me like an hour to figure out a fix, but I made an account just to post what worked for me to try to help. (on Windows 10) I think what fixed it was I opened up the MicMute app. Then in the sidebar system tray (bottom right task bar) i right clicked on the app and hit devices. I changed the device to my actual microphone and was then able to toggle it off and on from there. I think the issue might be the app defaults to the Windows settings, and then leaves...
When are you going to create an new downloadable file for the portable version with the green icon included? Also created two fancy icons in case you want to add them. Plus two female voice wav files saying that you're (un)muted.

Yep, thanks me too, I confirm that works a breeze with my mic
Thanks, lately I was having issue with this app (Sourceforge MicMute), while the github one seems to do its job just fine (hoping that on my next reboot everything will be still OK).
Hey, I found another MicMute app that just uses whatever device is currently set as default. Works like a charm. Google "Github Anc813 MicMute" If that still doesn't work, AutoHotKey has scripts that let you choose the device but there are extra steps involved.
It doesn't work with my mic too. It's a Zoom H2N microsoft used with its drivers. Windows sees it as an USB mic (actually, audio device, when connected it also sets it's integrated speaker as output device), I can control it as a regular mic, same as I can control the webcam mic, or the one integrated on the motherboard... but MicMute does not see it among the available devices.
Help with mic problem
Hello, it would be cool to have a push-to-mute option as well. Not sure how much work it would need but here's hope you can add it. Thanks
Hello, I cannot hear the sound signal when I'm using my headset, while it's fine with my DAC (loudspeakers). Any idea as to why that may happen? Thanks
Hi, thank you for the great program! Following features would be nice: Adjustable "mute delay" like in Discord (unmute normal and mute after delay when using push-to-talk) Also the mute delay is beeing reset and counting again from zero by pressing the hotkey again while speaking as additional option. Also it would be very nice if push-to-talk and the normal mode would work the same time by using two different hotkeys (normal Hotkey overrides the delay and mutes / unmutes and disables the push to...
Sorry about the necro-post... If anyone else is having this problem, it can be fixed by opening the program with "Run as Administrator"!
Even though i allow it to start with windows it never does. Always have to close the app and open it up again for it to work right.
Thanks for this patch!
Thanks, applied the change and it works just fine!
Hi, has there been any feedback to this suggestion? I, too, am unable to select input device connected to GoXLR

I had trouble finding where the icon selection was also. Perhaps it would be easier to find if you separated the sound and icon selections, or even separated the sound and icon selection into a new main menu item - they are under the notification menu now, but I don't consider them notifications, so I didn't look there at first (new main menu item: Select sound and icon files)

Same issue here using Ctrl + Win – if Ctrl is pressed and released, subsequently pressing Win will activate MicMute.

Hi. Currently hook module doesn't know if mic is muted or unmuted, it's just generating the system event. Hook module uses internal structure with parameters, two of them are key codes combination that are equal for mute and unmute (key1 and key2). struct KeyHook_Struct { WPARAM prev_code; UINT vkCode; int keys_count; int key1; int key2; BOOL enabled; int mic_mode; }; If you plan to use different keys for mute and unmute, then you should extend this structure by adding new fields for key codes (for...
What I have realized is that the mute seems to be "focused" on a different thing at different times. For example, if I launch my video chat application and then launch MicMute, it works as expected. If my computer goes to sleep or anything like that, MicMute no longer mutes the mic in that same app. Its almost like the mute is being performed on something different. The only way that I can get it to work again is to kill Micmute, open the app again, and then re-launch MicMute.

Just not tested with line devices at all. And sorry, it's MicMute, not LineMute! =)
Format is a good idea =) Not only the volume of microphone is at zero level, also the microphone is disabled. You should go to input audio device properties and enable it.

I did the first attempt to update MicMute after a long pause. I've added custom icons support. No installation packet for now, you could just download new executables and icons from repo. https://sourceforge.net/p/micmute/code/38/tree/trunk/mic_mute/release/

Any help?
As time has gone, I am noticing strange behavior. The MicMute app seems to be getting switched to different "devices" throughout the day. For example, this morning it was working great. In the afternoon, it would beep but my Mic stays working. I looked at the volume mixer and noticed that the volume/Mute setting on the MicMute sound adjustment was going mute/unmute when I hit the hotkey. After restarting MiMute, the Mute/UnMute function would beep but it was not muting my Mic. It must be toggling...
I am realizing that the sound volume of the MicMute adjuster keeps getting its mute checkbox checked. I am not doing it so something is doing it. This causes the sound notification for MicMute to constantly be muted, so it cannot be heard until I manually uncheck the box. Any idea why this keeps happening?
Ok I have now resolved this issue. In my voume mixer, there is a new volume adjuster for MicMute. It had been muted somehow. I did not do it, but I unmuted it in the mixer and it now beeps again.
MicMute Sound to Indicate Mic is Muted or UnMuted
Really hoping to get it back to how it was originally set-up I lived it that way. Now if i want to mute mic in-game, it's also muting my streamlabs obs mic as well!
Selective Mic Muting
I have come to realize that the mute function does not mute all mic's. I have to swtch the tool to each mic individually to mute it.
MicMute not Muting Mic on Logitech Webcam
You know, Windows application bar can be black, so MIC icon isn't visible. Thanks
Hi! Sorry for the delay in my response. It is not very complicated. Simply modifying the application resources using the "Resource Hacker" program and modifying the icons from there by putting them in color. That is, removing the black microphone icon and putting a red / green one on it
I didn't realize you weren't the programmer. Could you explain what you did, or is too complicated for a concise description?
I only modified it for myself. I did not upload the new file because I did not program it. You would have to ask the developer for the modification. It is unethical for you to upload an unauthorized modification
Hi, I am using Windows 10 64-bit. I installed this software today, it certainly muted the microphone but now my microphone is permanently muted. I uninstalled MicMute but cannot find a way to resolve (similar to above issue). Also any ideas?? Thank you,
Where is this new file? I downloaded the program today - it's version 0.1.8.4, and the muted mic icon is still black
Hi! I modified .exe file to obtain red / green icon!
My taskbar / notification area is black so I'd like to change icons to green and red.
I can't capture any kind of sound with my PC
The icon is also nearly invisible (within the taskbar tray ) when the mic is in muted mode. I would recommend using the same red mic icon (seen in the taskbar tray when mic is enabled) and just create a black "slash" going thru it when disabled. A similar "color" choice could be used as you default icons when displayed in the task bar. Currently,( on Windows 10 anyway) you can just barely make out the silhouette with the black mic on a nearly black taskbar background.
This feature already exists. Right click the tray icon and select Setup Shortcut. The key that you press will act as an on off switch. Based on my keyboard layout, I use the Pause button.
how are you restarting the app? only thing i found that works is reinstalling
