Anyways, the memory ibutton can store stuff like that. But I do not know of any possibility of mounting it as a drive under linux. Only the mibfm program which can transfer files back and forth from the ibuttons. You could probably put a script together for automating the process of retrieving your secret key before signing. > Anyone have any ideas or thoughts around how to go about that? BTW, I think this mailinglist is pretty empty. You could try to check and see if anyone at this list http://lists.dalsemi.com/mailman/listinfo/1-wire-software-development have any ideas. AH! Finally, someone who's made a web page on memory ibuttons. It took
me a bit of time to find mibfm, but I'm glad I finally did.
I picked up a memory ibutton and the associated connectors in hopes of
finding a small, durable (but still easy to use) physical identification
tool. My initial hopes were to mount the 64k memory space as a drive
under linux/unix/(eventually) windows and store SSH private/public keys
there.
Anyone have any ideas or thoughts around how to go about that?
Thanks!
Ben

I'we Cc:'ed this reply to the mailinglist. I don't think it has got any members yet, but feel free to join it. I will try to send announcements on new version to the list in the future. Hopefully, it will be used for general discussions as well. Information on how to join is here: http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/mibfm-general There is also a mailinglist where changes to the CVS respository get automaticly posted: http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/mibfm-cvslog On Mon, 13 Mar 2000, Claudiu Costin wrote: > My intention is to write in Tcl/Tk complete 1-Wire stack, > because Tcl suport COM I/O. Not familiar with Tcl/Tk programming, so I really don't know if this language is suitable for communication with the iButtons. Actually, the optimal solution would be to make a kernel device driver for the iButtons. Then you could just use whatever tools you like for moving files to and from the button. But, I'm not capable of such a task at the moment... Feel free to submit patches to mibfm if you have any ideas. You are also welcome to use my source as a basis for your own project. > BTW, your program rely on DS2480 COM adaptor and not > cheap made DS9097U (I've made my own from Dallas schematics; > it's very good and very cheap; I have 3 adaptors) The reason for using the DS9097U-9 which is based on the DS2480 is that it is, to my knowledge, the only interface supported by the routines from Dallas Semiconductor. The DS9097U-9 with a Blue Dot Receptor costs $15 from Dallas Semi., so it's not *that* expsensive. Besides, you get the very nice receptor which you can have on your monitor. See http://www.ibutton.com for details. You can also order iButtons from here. Remember that you would have to pay for shipping and handling. > P.S. Prices from Maplin in the UK: DS1993 - £ ~5 ($ ~8) DS1995 - £ ~9 ($ ~15) DS1996 - £ ~12 ($ ~20) Best regards, Karl -- Karl-Martin Skontorp E-Mail: <ksk...@cs...> WWW: http://homepages.strath.ac.uk/~aeu99233/ |
