where is the "log window"?

I'm a newbie trying to work through an older tutorial ( http://www.shapeways.
com/forum/index.php?t=msg&th=1704&start=0& (www.shapeways.com) ). I am stuck at a part that tells me to use:

"Filter > Cleaning and repairing > Remove isolated pieces (by face num) with
the default value (25) and observe the log window at the bottom. You'll see
that it has removed some number of pieces, out of another number of total
pieces."

Is the "Log window" that purple bar with the white text at the bottom of the
display? If so, where does it show the number of pieces removed by this
operation? I see vertices, faces, and selection for the current mesh, but not
the data indicated by the tutorial.

The purple bar below the window is not the log window.. i will refer to it as
a "status window".

You can access the log window by going to VIEW -> SHOW LAYER DIALOGUE.. The
log window is right below the layers window..
