Hi. Not sure if there is a logfile for this because its a game connection problem rather than anything else in the game itself. MegaMek 0.39.1, on both windows 7 and ubuntu 14.04, attemtpting to connect to a game or connect as a computer player gives the following "error: could not connect to local host 2345". I've tried a variety of port numbers with no success. This is new to 0.39.1, connecting to open games worked fine before. Thoughts?

Thanks

Are you connecting to "localhost" or are you connecting to "local host"? The former is correct, the latter will fail.

"localhost" all one word. I'm still getting the same error on both OS'.

Isn't the default port number for MM 2346, not 2345? Have you tried a different port number?

Another thing to check is your firewall. Since MM always sets up a game server and connects you to it as a client, it's possible for the firewall to block this (depending on FW settings) if it doesn't recognize the application.

Checking the firewall is a good idea, although that should only be an issue in Windows.

What exactly are you doing? Are you using the "Start Game" button in Megamek (and hence hosting a server locally and trying to connect to it) or are you trying to connect to another server (even a server hosted locally that you created with another instance of MM)?

You should still attach the logfile. The logfile gets created as soon as MM starts.

You said that other versions worked, did you try the 39.0 dev release? I would also be curious to see if Ralgith's custom release works for you, as it is built with a newer version of MM.

I'm connecting on the same computer as the first game is started on to play hot-seat. The first player starts by using the "Start Game" buttone, the second player then uses the "Connect To Game" button. The default port of the first player is 2346, the port for the connecting second player comes up as 2345. Trying at the same port number, above the port number or below the port number gives the same error.

I have to work this weekend, but I'll try 39.0 and Ralgiths this week and see what happens.

For myself, I can't duplicate this on any recent builds under Linux.

Hi, sorry this took so long. I couldn't find anything on my system that would be impeeding connections. But I did switch to 39.2 and everything is fine, no problems starting more than one connection. Not sure why, but it works now.

I'm not really sure what would cause this and we can't reproduce it. I'm going to close this ticket, but feel free to update it or report a new one if the problem happens again.
