#3673 Unable to start a game in Windows 8 environment

I am trying to run MegaMek-035.34-windows on a Windows 8 laptop using Java Version 7 update 17. However when I attempt to Start a New Game, I get a the following error: "Error: could not connec to server at localhost:2346. Using other port numbers did not solve the problem.

I am able to run MegaMek-035.34-windows on a Windows Vista laptop, but would like to run it on my newer laptop. Attached is a copy of my megameklog.txt.

Thanks for any help you can provide. This is an awesome program and lets me play games with old friends now I have moved across country.

You need to use the "start a new game" button not the "connect to a game" button when you start up a game.

Attempted "Start a New Game" and that still got the "Could not connect to server at localhost:2346".

I can't test this as I don't have Windows 8. There is most likely a security issue because windows thinks its smarter than you are. Where did you install the megamek folder? People have reported problems when installing in the Program Files directory. You may also have to try running as administrator or whatever the hell they do in windows 8.

Your correct, it is a security issue (I did install in the megamek folder as oppose to Program Files).

Run as Administrator solved the problem. I can now run MegaMek in Windows 8.
