For me, this is a bug, this should not change (but yes, now,
I know this changes...)

This program completely ruined my file associations without
permission. I spent great effort in creating these and now
I will have to reinstall my entrire system to recover. This
is extremely dreadful design!

Your message is a little extremist : I create links where
there is no links created yet!
And they are easy to delete in the registry, this is only
one line per file extension.
So, if you spent great effort in creating file associations,
you should have a default name for extensions, so I don't
create names I will not delete later, so while uninstalling
MediaInfo delete all its entries.
if you spent great effort in creating file associations, 5
minutes to delete file associations will not be a lot.
Example : HKCR/.ac3 is mapped to "AC3File" (as Microsoft
does, ie .avi is by default mapped to avifile), delete
"AC3File" and all will be OK.
Please explain me what is the "ruin" of your work, because
as far as I know, I only create things where there are
nothing created...
