For several versions now, MediaInfo retains an open handle on the parent folder of the currently viewed file. This was not the case with earlier versions (before Digimetrics, I think).

THE RESULTING PROBLEM: You cannot easily rename the parent folder of a media file to include properties you see in the MediaInfo unless you first close the MediaInfo window. MediaInfo should not hold on to any file handles, even the file it is currently viewing, let alone the parent folder.

    (before Digimetrics, I think).

    3-4 years old now :)

MediaInfo should not hold on to any file handles

    Right.
But I can not reproduce the issue. Handles on some files/directories may stay in some scenarios, but I need to know which one. I tried e.g. with TS file, no problem.
Which file are you trying to analyze?
