there is something weird with mkv tags:

General; %DATE_RELEASED% <- works
General; $if(%DATE_RELEASED%, %DATE_RELEASED%) <- displays nothing
General; $if(%DATE_RELEASED%, (%DATE_RELEASED%)) <- displays ")"
General; General; $if(%Title%, (%title%)) <- works

I think it is due to unsupported fields (Title is a "standard" MediaInfo field, DATE_RELEASED is not).
