After updating to 18.05 (win64) it seems custom layout isn't working.
looking at example templates they dont seem to have changed but all thats being shown in custom view is an xml header

I tested "Example" template as well as "Table by field, compact (HTML)" template, and all seems fine (18.05 on win64).
We need more details about how to reproduce the issue.

strange, it doesn't work for me.
If i however choose eg. text as default output and maually change to custom layout it works.
but when i choose custom as default output format in prefs it just wont work.

Also when having selected custom layout in prefs and starting mediainfo using context menu it shows NISO Z39.87 being used

  I can reproduce this bug (the selection of NISO when you select Custom), we'll fix that.
