#7 Crashes when using callinf edit in command prompt

Here is the senario I did and first time Windows XP Pro SP2 crashed and gave blue screen.
type
shell://cmd
then I get command prompt
C:\>edit [enter]

some reason edit does not work, it seems to be a problem. Can you check it out?
