Hello, It seems that you have to specify the backend you want, default is to output Access DDL. On my Debian SID, mdbtools version 0.5.99.0.6pre1.0.20051109-1, mdb-schema recognizes the mysql backend. You have to launch it with : $ mdb-schema mydatabase.mdb mysql > create-db.sql HTH. I'm starting using the MDBTOOLS today... Really it seems to me a very powerful tool for an ACCESS user aspiring to switch himself in a MYSQL user. I started analysing one of my different Access DBs (really my chain to microsoft) with MDB-SCHEMA, in order to produce the relevant DDL, of which I attach a sample. The data type given by the mdbtools are not readable by the MySql Interpreter. For example Long Integer and Currency are not accepted by MySql. What can I do ? I have to make the necessary changes by hand or there is something automatic to convert the data type ? Thanks for your answer. Regards, Michele |

Hi, I've managed to get mdbtools working with PHP (odbc_ functions) on Debian woody using a backported version of mdbtool v0.5. Unfortunately I get crashes and out-of-memory when I try to use almost any function. eg, odbc_num_rows() odbc_fetch_row() odbc_result() odbc_fetch_into() although dumping the SQL query results out as plain text with odbc_result_all() seems to work fine. I'd like to try using the latest CVS version of mdbtools to see if the ODBC driver works better, but I can't even run the autogen.sh file :( ./autogen.sh --enable-sql --with-unixodbc=/usr/local processing . Running aclocal ... aclocal: configure.in: 105: macro `AM_PATH_GLIB_' not found in library Running libtoolize... You should add the contents of `/usr/share/aclocal/libtool.m4' to `aclocal.m4'. I have managed to get mdb-tools working from cvs. But I want access to binary data in my jet databases (like many people here, I'm using it for Adobe photo album/elements). I beleive to do this I need to apply some of the patches which have appeared in this mailing list. The problem is - I'm a bit of a linux newbie, and dont know how to apply these patches. Can someone tell me how? Do I apply the patch to the source before compiling, and re-compile the whole thing? Or do I apply it to the compiled stuff I have on my hdd now? Thanks, Shanon. |

I checked out CVS on my iBook and it has compiled fine. I hacked autogen.sh to remove the libtool check because it simply wasn't working properly (I checked that I had libtool installed manually and it was). Apart from that, running ./autogen.sh did everything and make && sudo make install worked well. It helps that I have a rather complete install of tools from fink. Since I don't have any mdb files here at home to work on, its kinda pointless (most of my use of mdbtools is at work funnily enough) but its proof that it works. One warning I got was this: iconv.c: In function 'mdb_unicode2ascii': iconv.c:73: warning: passing argument 2 of 'libiconv' from incompatible pointer type iconv.c: In function 'mdb_ascii2unicode': iconv.c:121: warning: passing argument 2 of 'libiconv' from incompatible pointer type Sam |

Michal I got it to compile under Cygwin using an mdbtools CVS snapshot a few months ago. However, in src/util/Makefile, I had to add $(LDADD) to the end of the mdb_sql_LDADD line: mdb_sql_LDADD = ../libmdb/libmdb.la ../sql/libmdbsql.la $(LIBREADLINE) $(LDADD) It was a while back, so I don't remember how I came to this solution, but it worked. Even though $(LDADD) defines the same thing as the 1st entry in mdb_sql_LDADD, putting it at the end fixes things -- the compiler is then able to find the references. I've run into similar situations before under Cygwin. Michael At 05:44 AM 1/4/2006 -0800, you wrote: >Hi developers! > >I am trying to compile mdbtools command line tools in Cygwin. Hi developers! I am trying to compile mdbtools command line tools in Cygwin.
