Greetings, Please find attached a patch which provides a '-p' option to mdb-export, which when used with the -I and -S, allows data to be directly imported into PostgreSQL. Using 'mdb-export' with the -I and -S options produces INSERT statements that almost work except for: - " (double quotes) are used to delimiter data, instead of single quotes. - The is no semicolon (';') at the end of each line. The patch add this. There is another issue with '\'s in the data still being passed directly without being escaped. This is a problem where I have 'windows' pathnames stored, and a training '\' will inadvertently escape the single quote delimiter. Cheers, Paul Schulz (Please cc. me on any reply to the list as I am not subscribed.) |

Does the latest CVS version support writing rows to existing tables. All I need to do is a simple "INSERT INTO blah(x,y,z) VALUES("X","Y","Z") I heard there are limitations on creating the tables but this I can live with for the moment. If this is possible then you will have alleviated an enourmous headache for me, cheers Craig Thomson Graduate IT Specialist <mailto:ct...@ma... <mailto:ct...@ma...> > Phone +44 (0) 1224 783700 Fax +44 (0) 1224 783701 Masterpower Electronics Ltd company registered in Scotland SC129203. Install a compiler, which could be any command since you don't include what distro you are using. Ask someone who knows more about your distro as this is more than likely their issue and not an issue with mdbtools sam On 4/15/06, Sameer Kulkarni <sam...@ya...> wrote: > Hi All, > > I am really sorry to mail you directly. Hi, I am trying to view some .mdb files using the MDB Viewer 0.6pre1, running on SUSE 10. All the .mdb files are JET 4 (2000/XP). I believe the hk_classes are installed correctly. However, when I attempt to view the tables I can only view ONE of them. All the others do not show the tables. Is there something else I can check? Is there a limit to the size that the viewer can handle? Thanks, Brian |

Hi All, I am really sorry to mail you directly. But i am stuck up badly. Please help me if you can... I want to convert an MS Access - MDB file into an .CSV file in Linux platform . Means all the tables in the MDB file should be converted into *.CSV file. For this , after searching on net, i found that mdb-tools are available. Which we need to install in linux environment. I have already downloaded the mdbtools-0.6pre1.tar.gz file and perform following steps for installation. tar -xzvf mdbtools-0.5.tar.gz cd mdbtools-0.5 ./configure make su -c make install But while running the 3 step ./configure is get following error checking for C compiler default output... configure: error: C compiler cannot cr eate executables See `config.log for more details. Can you please help me to resolve this error or else is there anyother way to acheive the requirement . Regards Sameer --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. Use Yahoo! Messenger to make PC-to-Phone calls. Great rates starting at 1¢/min. |

Since this was brought up, I would like to be able to do a few "basic" task= s from a C program (actually from a Perl XM module, but it works the same):= modify the values of fields in a database row, insert a row into a table, = and delete a row from a table. Is there a reference anywhere on how to go about doing these (or are these = even possible to do currently)? What is the command-line tool and where mi= ght I look in it for how they do these? I believe primitive update support is available through a command-line tool. I'm not sure about insert support. As for the SQL interface, it only supports SELECT, CONNECT, DISCONNECT, DESCRIBE TABLE, and LIST TABLES at this time. -- Jeff Smith __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hello everyone, My name is Francisco and I'm having some trouble here. I was asked to create a migratory tool from DBF to MDB that would also be able to run under linux, so I decided for MDBtools with unixODBC. Now I'm having some problems with insertion and deletion. My actual code is: //------------------------------------CODE START---------------------------------------------------------// <html> <head> <title>PHP Database Example</title> </head> <?php $db =3D odbc_connect("GDB","",""); $result =3D odbc_exec($db, "INSERT INTO Products VALUES (100, 'Jill', '555-1040')"); odbc_commit($db); ?> </body> </html> //------------------------------------CODE END---------------------------------------------------------// but I always get this message from the interpreter: //--------------------message------------------------------// bash-3.00$ php index.php <html> <head> <title>PHP Database Example</title> </head> Error at Line : parse error near INSERT </body> </html> //--------------------message------------------------------// Though I can't see errors at all. Isn't inserting and deleting supported yet? Am I doing something wrong? thanks in advance, Francisco Dalla Rosa |

I'm reading data from a jet database which has binary fields in it. When vewing the data in access, the binary fields appear as either a "/" or "%" (This is not the actual data - just how it is displayed when viewing the table in access). Now I'm fairly certain that this means something important. But when I read the fields using mdb-tools, the data is read the same for all records (whether they appear as "/" or "%" in access). Can anyone help me tell the difference between these using mdb-tools? (If it helps, I'm using this to read an Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 database). Thanks. |

Category: cmd line utils Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: micha137 (micha137) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: mdb-sql treats columns case sensitive Initial Comment: I was desparate about mdb-sql returning emtpy records for a selection of a column subset, but working properly when selecting all columns using "*". It turned out that it treats the column names case sensitive. Say "table1" has two columns, "Column1" and "Column2". This didn't work: SELECT column1 FROM table1 Resulted in empty records. This worked: SELECT * FROM table1 This is the corrected first query: SELECT Column1 FROM table1 mdb-sql should either treat the column names as case insensitive (I don't know what SQL says here) or report an error like "column 'column1' does not exist". In no case may it return empty records. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=102294&aid=1463036&group_id=2294 |

Hi, I'm a brand new user of the mdbtools. Thanks, first off! This is great. I installed on a Debian system. Everything went as expected. Aside from the program not showing up in the menu system (minor annoyance), it launched from the CLI, it accessed my file, and exported one table to text without a glitch. My issue is the need to edit the table prior to export. I figure I can do this using the SQL Window, but when I try to open it, I get nothing. Here are some error messages: on startup: (gmdb2: 19598): libglade-WARNING **: could not find signal handler 'gmdb_sql_new_cb'. And these, although I can't tell you when they occurred: (gmdb2:19598): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid cast from 'GtkButton' to 'GtkWindow' (gmdb2:19598): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_message_dialog_new: assertion 'parent =3D=3D NULL | | GTK_IS_WINDOW (parent)' failed (gmdb2:19598): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_dialog_run: assertion 'GTK_IS_DIALOG (dialog)' failed Thanks for any help you can offer. Hello, I'm using mdbtools to pull information out of a binary field (adobe photo album 2.0). In this binary field, each 4 bytes represents an integer, so when I use the mdb tools to dump the data out of this field, I can convert the hexademical to decmial, to give me the number I want. What it is giving me is something like this: 1900000033000000320000002600000027000000 Every 8 characters represents on value (an integer). My problem is, that mdbtools seems to right fill each value with zeros. So, I can never be quite sure if the zeros are padding, or if they are part of the value. For example, from above, is the value "19", with 6 zeros padding it, or is it "190", with 5 zeros padding it? Is there some way of making the padding happening the other way around (left filling with zeros), so I'll know exactly where the padding starts and the value ends? Or am I missing something here? Any help would be appreciated. |
