#5 Gnome VFS or GIO support?

Would be nice to have Gnome VFS support,
in cases where users already have it installed.

(Would be nice, which is to say, not a high priority.)

Although Gnome VFS is deprecated and

GIO seems to be the recommended replacement
http://developer.gnome.org/gio/2.28/ch01.html

so even just GIO support would be great. (I suppose you'd want try for both and use GIO where available).

I'm guessing VFS support would also resolve some esoteric file access requests like the following:
