I'm using MaxLauncher 0.8.0.0 (which doesn't appear to be an option in the "Milestone" selector). At first it worked well on a Toshiba laptop running Windows 8.1. Now, however, MaxLauncher starts near the lower right-hand corner of my screen and can't be moved anywhere. It's locked in place. Furthermore all of the icons and their associated links seem to be gone.
This started shortly after I installed version 0.8.0.0. I tried going back to 0.7.0.0, but that didn't help. I don't think that the latest version caused the problem.
The positioning issue is a new problem on the Toshiba, but it has always been the case on my Surface tablet, also running Windows 8.1. On the Surface, I have stuck with MadAppLauncher, because of the positioning issue with MaxLauncher.
Any advice?
Hi Peter,
Can you please try version 0.6.0.0? http://sourceforge.net/projects/maxlauncher/files/MaxLauncher/0.6.0.0/maxlauncher_0.6.0.0_setup.exe/download
Thanks.
Roberto
Hi, Thanks for the response Roberto.
I will try 0.6.0.0. I may not have time to do it today, but I will do it
tomorrow (Thursday) at the latest.

#2Hi Roberto:
It turned out I still have my original copy of version 0.6.0.0, so I just
unzipped it, overwriting v 0.8.0.0.
The screen shot below shows how it starts. I only have the top row of
buttons, and I cannot move MaxLauncher from that spot on the screen. It is
locked in place.
I did discover that if I set the view to "drag and drop mode" I can move the
MaxLauncher window. However, if I uncheck "drag and drop mode" again,
MaxLauncher moves back to the location you see it and won't budge.

#2Hi Peter,
Have you tried running MaxLauncher in safe mode (http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/ss/windows-8-safe-mode.htm)? I just want to see if there is an application that is causing it to behave that way. Application that modifies the screen may affect it; apps such as nview or Display Fusion(which I noticed in your screenshot).
BTW, I ran it on a Windows 8.1 and it worked just fine.
With regards to the tab/buttons, do you have an .mld file open? If not, try to create one via File/New. FYI, you can also import .mal files via File/Import.
Thanks.
Roberto
Thanks for the reply Roberto:
You were right about the buttons. I just had to find and re-open an mld
file. Don't know why I didn't think of that, and also don't know why
MaxLauncher lost track of that file.
I haven't tried starting MaxLauncher in safe mode. I did try stopping
Display Fusion, and that made no difference.

#2I have never used Display Fusion but I downloaded and tried it for a bit, at least the evaluation version. I noticed that it runs a service so even if you exit it from the tray the service may still be running. That is why I thought it might be a good idea just to run it in Windows Safe Mode.

#2My apologies Roberto, it took me a long time to get around to running
Windows in Safe Mode to see if the issue with the placement of the
MaxLauncher window would be affected. I just tried it.
Starting is safe mode makes no difference. The MaxLauncher window is still
locked into position towards the lower right corner of my screen. If I
change the View setting to "Drag and Drop Mode", I can move the window
around normally. However, as soon as I turn off "Drag and Drop Mode" the
window pops back to its position towards the lower right.
It isn't a fatal issue. MaxLauncher works fine, I just can't put the window
anywhere else. I'm continuing to use MaxLauncher as my default program
launcher, and I like it a lot.

#2Out of curiosity, I tried putting MaxLauncher on a Windows 10 machine. The
same problem occurs; MaxLauncher is locked in one position on the screen.
This particular machine has a lower resolution than the other machines on
which I've tried MaxLauncher. Its screen resolution is only 1366 x 768. On
that screen, MaxLauncher appears to be locked in the center of the screen.

#2Hi Peter,
When you tried on Windows 10, do you have the View/Center on Screen option checked? Being stuck at the center of the screen is this options intention.
Thanks.

Hi Roberto:
Yes, I did have View/Center on Screen checked. That must be the default,
because I have never deliberately selected it. I un-checked it, and now the
window can be moved around as would be expected.
After doing that, I went back and looked on my Windows 8.1 machine. Sure
enough, Center on Screen was also checked on that machine. However, it has
a higher-resolution screen, 1920 x 1080. On the higher-resolution screen,
the Center on Screen option places the MaxLauncher window towards the lower
right of the screen.
So that explains the problem I've been telling you about. It isn't a
problem at all. I had never really looked at the view options, and it just
hadn't occurred to me that "Center on Screen" would be checked by default.
Since the window does not in fact appear in the center of the screen, I
never made the connection.
Thanks: Peter R.
