I'll try to look in to this soon.  It's an interesting function.
Maybe teaching maxima about some of its properties would also be
useful (and fun to learn about).

Is this what you're using this for?  A while ago, I hacked up some
Javascript (without complex numbers, ick!) to compute some basic
filters.  Only got as far as lowpass and highpass elliptic filters.
